- Retinal Detachment
- A sight-threatening emergency where the retina peels away from its supporting tissue. Symptoms include sudden flashes, floaters, or a curtain over vision. Requires urgent surgical repair.
- Macular Hole
- A small break in the macula — the central part of the retina responsible for sharp vision. Causes blurry or distorted central vision. Treated with vitrectomy surgery.
- Epiretinal Membrane
- A thin scar-like tissue that forms on the retinal surface, causing visual distortion or blurred central vision. Removed surgically when vision is significantly affected.
- Vitrectomy
- A surgical procedure where the vitreous gel inside the eye is removed to access and repair the retina. Used for retinal detachment, macular holes, and bleeding inside the eye.
- Scleral Buckle
- A silicone band placed around the outside of the eye to push the eye wall inward, helping reattach a detached retina. Often used alongside vitrectomy.
- Laser Retinopexy
- A laser treatment that creates small burns around a retinal tear to seal it and prevent detachment. Quick, in-office procedure used as a preventive measure.
