About Marashi Eye Clinic

Founded by Dr. Assad Marashi in 1980, our family clinic has been looking after Aleppo's eyes for more than 40 years. Today Dr. Ameen and Dr. Omar carry that on — from a routine check-up to retina and cataract surgery — with the same personal attention patients have counted on for two generations.

Services & treatments

Retinal Diseases & Vitreoretinal Surgery

Lead doctor: Dr. Ameen
Retinal Detachment
A sight-threatening emergency where the retina peels away from its supporting tissue. Symptoms include sudden flashes, floaters, or a curtain over vision. Requires urgent surgical repair.
Macular Hole
A small break in the macula — the central part of the retina responsible for sharp vision. Causes blurry or distorted central vision. Treated with vitrectomy surgery.
Epiretinal Membrane
A thin scar-like tissue that forms on the retinal surface, causing visual distortion or blurred central vision. Removed surgically when vision is significantly affected.
Vitrectomy
A surgical procedure where the vitreous gel inside the eye is removed to access and repair the retina. Used for retinal detachment, macular holes, and bleeding inside the eye.
Scleral Buckle
A silicone band placed around the outside of the eye to push the eye wall inward, helping reattach a detached retina. Often used alongside vitrectomy.
Laser Retinopexy
A laser treatment that creates small burns around a retinal tear to seal it and prevent detachment. Quick, in-office procedure used as a preventive measure.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Lead doctor: Dr. Ameen
Laser Photocoagulation
A laser treatment that seals or destroys abnormal blood vessels in the retina to prevent further vision loss from diabetic retinopathy.
Anti-VEGF Injections
Injections of medication into the eye to block a protein (VEGF) that causes abnormal blood vessel growth. Effectively treats diabetic macular edema.
OCT Imaging
Optical Coherence Tomography — a non-invasive scan that produces detailed cross-sectional images of the retina.
Fundus Photography
High-resolution photographs of the retina taken through a dilated pupil, used to document disease progression.
Macular Edema Treatment
Management of fluid buildup in the macula, treated with anti-VEGF injections, laser, or steroids depending on severity.

Cataract Surgery

Lead doctor: Dr. Ameen
Phacoemulsification
The modern cataract surgery technique using ultrasound energy to break up the cloudy lens into tiny pieces, suctioned out through a small incision.
IOL Implantation
After the cataract is removed, a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is folded and inserted through the same small incision.
Monofocal IOL
The standard artificial lens providing clear vision at one fixed distance. Does not guarantee spectacle independence.
Premium IOL
Advanced artificial lenses correcting vision at multiple distances (multifocal) or reducing astigmatism (toric).
Biometry
Pre-operative measurements of the eye used to precisely calculate the correct IOL power.
Post-op Care
Follow-up visits and eye drop regimen after cataract surgery to prevent infection and monitor healing.
Tonometry
A quick test that measures intraocular pressure (IOP), a major risk factor for glaucoma.
Visual Field Test
A computerized test that maps the full range of vision, essential for detecting glaucoma progression.
OCT Nerve Fiber
A scan of the retinal nerve fiber layer that detects early thinning before visual field loss becomes apparent.
Eye Drops
The most common first-line treatment for glaucoma, used daily to lower eye pressure.
Laser Treatment
Laser procedures that improve fluid drainage from the eye to lower pressure.
Surgical Options
Procedures that create new pathways for fluid outflow to permanently lower eye pressure, reserved for advanced cases.

General Eye Examination

Lead doctor: Dr. Ameen
Visual Acuity
A standardized test measuring how clearly you see at a set distance.
Refraction
The process of determining the exact lens prescription needed to correct blurry vision.
Slit-Lamp Exam
A detailed microscopic examination of the front structures of the eye.
Fundus Exam
Examination of the back of the eye after dilating the pupil, detecting retinal and optic nerve disease.
Eye Pressure
Measurement of intraocular pressure, typically included in every comprehensive eye exam.
Prescription Update
Review and update of your glasses or contact lens prescription.

Squint (Strabismus) Surgery

Lead doctor: Dr. Ameen
Strabismus Surgery
A procedure that adjusts the position or strength of eye muscles to correct misalignment.
Eye Muscle Realignment
Repositioning of the extraocular muscles to correct the angle of deviation.
Amblyopia Management
Treatment of lazy eye through patching, glasses, or vision therapy, often combined with surgery.
Botulinum Toxin Injection
An injection into an eye muscle to temporarily weaken it, used for certain squint types.
Orthoptic Evaluation
A specialized assessment of eye movement, alignment, and binocular vision.

Refractive Surgery

Lead doctor: Dr. Omar
LASIK
A laser procedure that reshapes the cornea by creating a thin flap and applying an excimer laser underneath.
SMILE
A minimally invasive laser procedure reshaping the cornea through a small incision without a full flap.
PRK
A laser procedure that reshapes the corneal surface without a flap, suitable for thinner corneas.
Phakic IOL
An artificial lens implanted without removing the natural lens, for high refractive errors.
Corneal Topography
A detailed 3D map of the corneal surface used to plan refractive surgery.
Suitability Assessment
A comprehensive evaluation to determine the safest refractive procedure for each patient.

Cornea Surgeries and Treatments

Lead doctor: Dr. Omar
Corneal Transplant
A surgical procedure that replaces damaged corneal tissue with healthy donor tissue.
Corneal Cross-Linking
A procedure using UV light and riboflavin eye drops to strengthen corneal tissue and halt keratoconus progression.
Keratoconus Management
Ongoing monitoring and treatment of a progressive corneal thinning condition.
Corneal Infection Treatment
Diagnosis and targeted medical treatment of corneal infections to prevent scarring.
Pterygium Surgery
Surgical removal of a benign tissue growth on the surface of the eye.
